Digital innovation, such as big data analysis or digital tracking, can be a critical driver in addressing many of the big challenges within the water sector:<\/p>\n Water quality monitoring in real-time with spatial resolution<\/p>\n Identification of water sources affected by emerging contaminants (e.g. PFAS, arsenic)<\/p>\n Degradation over time of disinfectants, such as bleach, yielding unwanted byproducts<\/p>\n Ensuring compliance to water quality standards set and continuously updated by legislators<\/p>\n Business model Innovation<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Each water source has its own \u201cfingerprint\u201d. Customers of treatment technologies are challenged with ensuring the accurate water quality is met, based on the specific sector and application (e.g. drinking water, irrigation, wastewater discharge, etc.). Given that expensive water treatment equipment is just a mean to obtain a result, there is an opportunity to leverage subscription-based business models enabled by digital technologies.<\/p>\n In addition, today the water industry is designed for developed countries, where a large water infrastructure serves millions of people. However, billions of people in the world still lack access to basic water and sanitation, or WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) global issue. Mobile water treatment devices are available, but they are costly to the manufacturer and the end customers. Therefore, crowdsourced data and supply chain innovations can be key in making these small water projects more attractive and economically viable.<\/p>\n Digitally-enhanced Water Treatment<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Water usage and treatment follow cyclical patterns that can vary on an hourly, daily, weekly, or seasonal basis. Water treatment capabilities are designed with the maximum usage in mind, but equipment and chemical consumption used varies based on the real-time demand. Artificial intelligence systems can enable monitoring and forecasting of the actual treatment demand. Based on such information, autonomous or supportive decision-making systems, could effectively maximize efficiency, prolong asset life and reduce the waste of chemical generators, like Capital Controls\u00ae Ozone Generators. Also, these smart systems would simplify operations and enable remote monitoring capabilities.<\/p>\n Simplification of Design, Operations & Maintenance <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Many different water treatment technologies are available in the industry, customers are often challenged in understanding which one is most effective one. The technology selection process can benefit from equipment selection tools that: address the right combination of chemicals; evaluate the pros and cons of one solution verses another; propose a series of standard options.<\/p>\n Operating a water treatment equipment means constantly finding solutions to fluctuating water quality. However, most equipment does not have the ability to store memory of previously addressed conditions that may occur again. A smart user interface for dashboarding and recommendation of solutions can simplify customer experience, reduce downtime and technical assistance requests.<\/p>\n Water treatment equipment, such as the De Nora ClorTec\u00ae, is designed with many parts making it difficult to know when to maintenance or replace critical parts. The integration of data-driven warnings to help customers know when to proactively change out parts before potential failures, are both a time-saving and cost-saving value.<\/p>\n LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS <\/strong><\/p>\n Submissions must be provided in English. Submissions in other languages will not be accepted.<\/p>\n INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY <\/strong><\/p>\n To the extent permitted by applicable law, Participants own any intellectual property rights to the projects they create.<\/p>\n Notwithstanding the above, with the acceptance of the present Terms and Conditions Participants declare that will discuss and negotiate in good faith, should their project be selected by the Client, a license or a transfer of ownership of the project and its included intellectual property rights according to the conditions that will be mutually agreed with the Client in a separate agreement.<\/p>\n Further, Participants undertake that, for the duration of the challenge, from the selection phase to the presentation of their project, Client may require them to sign a non-disclosure and confidentiality agreement in order to protect certain Company information and further proceed in the project evaluation.<\/p>\n JUDGING <\/strong><\/p>\n A panel of judges composed from the Organizer, the Client, and external entities will evaluate every project at its sole discretion. The Organizer is fully entitled to disqualify a Participant or a team which does not abide by these Terms & Conditions or acts in any way deemed inappropriate by the Organizer.<\/p>\n The Organizer shall not be responsible, and assume no liability, for (i) lost, misdirected or late submissions; (ii) electronic transmission errors; (iii) theft, destruction, change of, or unauthorized, access to submissions; (iv) technical problems, malfunctions or errors in the operation of any hardware or software which is necessary for the transmission of submissions or for the procedure of the challenge, including computer viruses and bugs, or for manipulations, unauthorized access, scams, overload of the Internet or a website or any combinations of these, nor for other causes not subject to the inspection by the Organizer and the respective subsidiaries and branches of the Organizer. In case any of the above should occur, the Organizer retains the right, in its sole discretion, to adjust, change, postpone or cancel the challenge in any manner it deems fit, or to take any other action it deems appropriate, including, without limitation, disqualifying any Participant who wrongfully causes any of the above to occur. The Organizer reserves all rights to recover damages and to take any recourses that may be available to it against any such Participant.<\/p>\n Participants who are employees of a corporation, government agency or an academic institution are responsible for ensuring that their participation complies with any policies their respective corporation, agency or institution may have regarding participation in events such as the challenge. If the Organizer has reason to believe that a Participant violated any such internal policies, the Organizer reserves the right to prohibit the Participant from participating in the challenge or receiving a prize at any time. The Organizer assumes no liability and is not responsible for any disputes arising between a Participant and his\/her employer with respect to participation in the challenge.<\/p>\n These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by, performed and interpreted according to the law of Italy, without regard to choice of law or conflict of law rules. The parties establish that for any future disputes relating to the interpretation, execution or resolution of this agreement, the Court of Milan will have exclusive jurisdiction. The Organizer will not accept any late or misdirected submission. The Organizer reserves the right to cancel the challenge and\/or cancel or amend the awards if it deems in its sole discretion that there is an insufficient number of Participants.<\/p>\n Disqualification of any Participant who the Organizer has reason to believe has breached any of these Terms and Conditions or has engaged in any unlawful or other improper conduct shall be at the Organizer\u2019s sole discretion.
