Challenge categories

Industrial Condition Monitoring

Mobile applications designed to enable the use of thermal imaging to ensure power keeps flowing, machines keep working, equipment lasts longer helping energy and industrial manufacturing companies avoid breakdowns that can cost thousands of dollars each minute. With a well-executed condition monitoring program, inspectors can find the initial signs of failure in machinery or electrical systems, diagnose it quickly, and complete repairs with minimal interruption (example: App to collect and annotate the temperature of electrical components and suggest actions based on trends).

Electrical Utility Industry

Mobile applications designed to streamline inspection efficiency and employee safety in power generation, transmission and distribution. Regular temperature monitoring using thermal imaging cameras can help diagnose impending failures before they occur – minimizing the cost of repairs, maximizing equipment life, and keeping the power on for customers. Integration into existing CMMS systems is important for utility customers (example: App to help power utilities to maximize uptime and avoid service interruptions).

Building Diagnostics and Energy Efficiency

Mobile applications to help maintain the health of a facility’s envelope or enclosure. Thermal cameras can help inspectors detect issues such as missing or defective insulation, moisture buildup, water infiltration, inefficient HVAC systems and air leaks. Documenting and reporting issues is key for this industry as they deal with insurance companies and other stakeholders (example: App to allow inspectors to collect and easily report issues to owners and insurance companies).

Connected First Responder

Mobile applications that enable first responders as individuals or groups to more effectively, efficiently, and safely do their work. Thermal imaging cameras provide powerful vision through dark environments, fog, and smoke. Situational awareness is a very powerful tool when battling fires, natural disasters, or responding to any type of emergencies (example: App to provide real-time situational awareness to first responders).

Wildcard

An application that doesn’t fit into one of the four main categories but targets professional users and implements thermal imaging in a unique and powerful way to solve a clearly identified problem. Wildcard apps are only eligible for the Grand Prize.
